  • 6-8 months, and no, you will not get bulky like a man from protein. You gain weight if you eat over your caloric needs. Big muscles are difficult for most people to build - how many guys are fighting hard building muscle? Despite the fact that guys build muscle easier than girls, it's still hard for them too. During my most intense workout schedules, I drank a protein shake and ate a protein bar a day (not to mention I ate all my meals too!) but I still lost weight. Why I take protein? Because it's hard to actually get in to the amount of protein my body needs through diet only, atleast for me. Also it's a good easy snack to bring along. Protein is composed of amino acids, some are vital to ingest dietary whether we consume it from eggs or chicken or a protein shake. Protein is the building blocks for the body! If you eat it in excess, well then you will obviously gain weight as it will be stored as fat in the body, but protein alone does not make you bulky or fat. There are different proteins, the one I use most is whey protein. It is easy for the body to break down and absorption in the body takes place very quickly. I take a protein shake (whey) from 5 to 10 minutes after a workout for better recovery. Casein protein is absorbed slowly and therefore it's more suitable as a night snack or a snack between meals.
